Branson's Ozark Mountain Spring Underway with 40+ Special Events and Festivals Through May!
Branson, MO — Branson is off to a fresh start for spring! With more than 40 special events and festivals through the month of May, Ozark Mountain Spring offers both new, as well as tried-and-true, shows, attractions and other activities for visitors to enjoy.
“For more than 50 years, the Live Music Show Capital of America has been a favorite for springtime travelers,” says Jimmy Osmond. “We moved our families here in the early ’90s and continue coming home to Branson because of the beauty of the seasons and the wonderful people. Branson blooms in March, along with the dogwoods, redbuds and wildflowers, while it showcases the world-famous music shows, family attractions, unique theme parks, new acts, features and exhibits.”
Internationally-awarded theme park Silver Dollar City opens a new million-dollar area for kids, Half Dollar Holler, and presents two Spring festivals, bringing in international performers from countries around the globe for World-Fest, followed by Bluegrass & BBQ, presenting the top performers in bluegrass music and a huge all-American barbecue.
Spring is a great time for activities on the water, and the 700-seat Showboat Branson Belle cruises Table Rock Lake presenting the new show ENCORE!, starring the world’s only violin-playing aerialist, Janice Martin, and a new male vocal group, The ShowMen, plus a new menu, new staging and new décor. In late May, White Water water park debuts its new highly-themed tropical river adventure, Aloha River at Hula Hula Bay, a $3 million expansion.
From the Branson collector car auction to the 3rd annual Missouri Food & Wine Festival and the FLW Bass Fishing tournament, spring is the perfect time to experience all the Branson/Lakes Area has to offer.
New for 2011, Armed Forces Celebration is the weekend of May 21 and will include a golf tournament where the active-duty personnel are the celebrities; the Showboat Branson Belle’s special salute to the Armed Forces; and the “Branson Doesn't Forget the Armed Forces” show – A star-studded USO-style show done as only Branson can!
“Those of us who live here know that Branson honors our veterans every day,” said Clay Cooper, who has been performing for Branson audiences since he was 16 and has his theater across from TITANIC. “We’re excited about a celebration in May to show our servicemen and women just how much we appreciate them.”
Special events are planned each week during Ozark Mountain Spring, including Kewpiesta and Historic Downtown Branson’s Plumb Nellie Arts & Crafts Festival.

Sawyer Brown in Concert
Friday, April 29, 8 p.m.
One of those rare acts who actually became stars directly from winning Star Search, country-rockers Sawyer Brown wound up enjoying a long, hit-filled career and remained commercially viable into the new millennium. The group originally grew out of country-pop singer Don King's touring band, with guitarist Bobby Randall and drummer Joe Smyth signing on in 1979, and bassist Jim Scholten, keyboardist Gregg "Hobie" Hubbard, and guitarist/future lead singer Mark Miller all arriving in 1980. King stopped touring in 1981, and the group decided to stay together, naming themselves after the Nashville street where they rehearsed. They spent the next two years on the road, and their agent landed them an audition for the popular syndicated talent show Star Search. Sawyer Brown won the grand prize of 100,000 dollars, and it wasn't long before Liberty/Capitol signed them up in 1984. Their self-titled debut album was released in 1985, and their debut single, "Leona," climbed into the Top 20; its follow-up, "Step That Step," went all the way to number one, and the album fell one spot short of that same position. Their sophomore album, Shakin', was another hit, producing the Top Five single "Betty's Bein' Bad."

4th Annual MOPARS in May
70's Supershow featuring The Village People, A Taste of Honey and Maxine Nightingale
Friday, May 13, 8 p.m.
For the first time ever in Branson, the biggest stars of the disco era will be on stage together for one big show. Friday May 13, 2011, 8:00pm at Tri-Lakes Center, the “70s Supershow” presents three of the most popular artists from that high energy era of dance music. Headlining the night is the group that continues to be an international sensation after three decades, Village People. This six man group is the real deal, not a “tribute” act. These stars are in demand around the world and continue to bring audiences to their feet with disco anthems like “Y.M.C.A.”, “Macho Man” and “In the Navy.” Lead singer Ray Simpson (the Cop), says, “After traveling America and the world for 33 years and bringing our disco party to hundreds of thousands of fans, Village People is excited to be performing in Branson for the first time. We expect that everyone, young and old, will be there to party with us."
Also part of this special night is A Taste Of Honey featuring original lead singer Janice-Marie. A Taste Of Honey got everyone to “Boogie Oogie Oogie,” and also had a number one hit with the beautiful love song “Sukiyaki.” Completing the all-star lineup is Maxine Nightingale, best known for her worldwide chart toppers “Right Back Where We Started From” and “Lead Me On.”
Bob Cannella with Up Close Concerts says this will be a very fan friendly event, “All of the stars are planning to sign autographs after the show, and you may take pictures during the show (still photos/flash photos are OK). Tri-Lakes Center has extremely comfortable seats, but you probably won’t be using them much when the music starts. This will be over two hours of the biggest songs from the 70s by the artists who made them worldwide hits.”
Tickets go on sale Tuesday November 23 at Tri-Lakes Center, 2527 State Highway 248 in Branson, or by calling the box at (417) 336-0219. Complete concert details are available at www.upcloseconcerts.com.
