March 2012
Branson is Ready to Welcome You
As you've probably heard, parts of the Branson area were hit by a tornado on Feb. 29. There were a number of homes and businesses that were damaged, but we were very fortunate that there were very few injuries from the storm, and that most were minor.
We've all been touched by the many calls and e-mails over the past week, and our thoughts and prayers are also with our neighbors throughout the Midwest and South that have been affected by these recent storms.
The Branson recovery and rebuilding efforts are progressing rapidly, with many of the affected businesses already reopened or scheduled to reopen in coming days. The "Strip" and other area roads are entirely open to traffic, and visitors are traveling to and from attractions, shows and restaurants with no difficulties.
For updates on the shows, attractions and lodging properties affected, please visit ExploreBranson.com
As our community recovers from this storm, we appreciate more than ever our loyal guests who come to stay and play in the Live Music Show Capital of the World!

Branson Turns 100 in 2012 – A Century To Celebrate
For more than 100 years, the Branson/Lakes Area has been attracting visitors to the Ozarks, lured by natural beauty and outdoor recreational activities. Branson itself was incorporated as a town on April 1, 1912. But the history of settlers and visitors coming to this beautiful part of the Ozarks goes back more than a half-century before that. It was this culture, set against the natural beauty of the Ozarks that drew the first “tourists” to the Branson region in the late 1800, including an author named Harold Bell Wright. And it was this culture that so many people around the world became fascinated with after reading Wright's landmark 1907 novel "The Shepherd of the Hills."
Today, Branson is home to more than 10,000 residents and has become Missouri's top vacation destination, welcoming about 8 million visitors a year.
Nestled in the lakeside beauty of the Ozark Mountains, Branson is America’s affordable, wholesome family entertainment capital that emphasizes fun, comfort and the feeling of being right at home. Featuring an array of live theaters and attraction venues and active recreational pursuits, the community embodies essential American values such as patriotism, faith, courage and generosity of spirit in a warm inviting atmosphere that is truly genuine and heartfelt.
Visit in 2012 and experience Branson’s birthday with 100 Days in 100 Ways to Celebrate April 1 – July 9, 2012. A very limited engagement, playing only in 2012! For more information visit www.Branson100.org

The Showboat Branson Belle Launches 2012 Season with Two All-New Shows
America’s most entertaining dinner cruise, the Showboat Branson Belle, presents two all-new shows for the 2012 season. Made in the USA, beginning March 30, will feature the world’s only violin-playing aerialist, Janice Martin, and the male vocal group The ShowMen, presenting all-American musical selections spanning the decades.
Martin brings her high-flying theatrics to the Showboat stage in a unique act showcasing her talents as a world-class violinist, vocalist, acrobat and multi-instrument musician. “Janice Martin is an amazing talent and we are excited about what she has in store for the new show,” said Showboat General Manager Jim Moeskau. “Her aerial performance and mastery of the violin, piano and vocals is a unique experience, not just in Branson, but anywhere.”
The ShowMen, five talented male vocalists and dancers from all across America, join Martin to fill the stage with a powerful blend of contemporary harmonies and standout solos. Comedian and magician Christopher James is the ultra-sharp, uber-funny master of ceremonies and entertainer, and all are accompanied by the Showboat’s signature live band, the Rockin’ Dockers, for a totally live entertainment experience.
Debuting in late May is a second all-new Made in the USA show featured on noon and Sunday cruises presenting talented fiddler Dean Church and master pianist Julie McClarey, joined by The ShowBelles, a female quartet, and the live band, the Castaways. Comedian David Hirschi, two-time Branson Comedian of the Year, emcees and performs.
Also new this year: Cruisin’ with the Classics Gospel Music Cruises are presented August 26 – 31 on noon cruises. These special cruises include gospel melodies from Showboat performers, followed by Southern Gospel greats including: the Dixie Melody Boys, August 26, a group with more than 20 top 40 hits; Gold City, August 27, with 60 Singing News Fan Awards over a 30-year career, The Stamps Quartet, August 28, Grammy and Dove award winners who toured with Elvis; The Kingsmen, August 29, Dove Awards winners and Gospel Music Hall of Famers; The Florida Boys, August 30, crowd favorites with 100 recorded gospel albums; and The Blackwood Brothers Quartet, August 31, winners of eight Grammys and five Dove awards.
Each cruise features a three-course meal from the Showboat’s Chef Larry, including slow-simmered beef roast and honey-Dijon glazed chicken topped off with the chef’s own Golden Brittle Lemon-Berry Torte. All meals are prepared onboard in the ship’s galley and served in the three-story atrium dining theater. Specialty dining options include the Paddle Wheel Club Room and Captain’s Row.

Centennial History Museum Grand Opening and Celebration
Sunday, April 1, Beginning at 1 p.m.
Excitement reigns in the city of Branson, Missouri as its centennial year celebration is surrounding every ounce of preparation pouring into the Grand Opening of the Branson Centennial Museum slated for Sunday, April 1, 2012 at 1pm. The Museum, situated at the corner of Business 65 and Main Street in the very heart of Branson, will welcome notables, citizens and visitors that day to hear snippets of speech as recited by its forbearers, have opportunity to sign a copy of the original 1912 petition to incorporate as a city, and enjoy an afternoon of street musicians, walking tours, and story tellers.
The celebration event begins at 2:00pm with Mayor Raeanne Presley and invited speakers arriving at the Museum entrance in horse drawn carriage. Ceremonial elements, including a blessing of the crowd by Bob Hubbard, the National Anthem, performed by local George Dyer, and a Color Guard presentation by local Veterans will set the tone for an earnest but uplifting celebration for its citizens. Celebrity Ventriloquist Jim Barber will serve as Emcee, and featured Speakers in addition to Mayor Presley include Museum Supporter Leon Combs and Katie Danner, Department of Missouri Tourism. Following the formal ceremonies, citizens are invited to sign a mock version of the petition, enjoy comedy entertainment and follow a Dixieland band into Downtown Branson for more music, fun and festivities until 5pm.
The intersection of Business Highway 65 and Main Street will be slowed to traffic during the ceremony, between 1:15 and 2:30pm. Those attending the festivities are encouraged to utilize both available city and street parking, and to come early to get the best viewing spots in front of the Museum. Seating will not be provided for this short ceremony.
The Branson Centennial Museum is the fruition of a labor of love, culminated through the work of the Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce (BLACC), the City of Branson, The Downtown Branson Mainstreet Association (DBMA) and The White River Valley Historical Society (WRVHS) intertwined over the course of many years. Through the gracious donation of space from Mr. Jim D. Morris, philanthropist and local merchant, the Museum will reside at 101 Veterans Blvd in a building formerly housing Morris Oil Company. With its prime visibility, visitors and locals alike will find the museum attractive and engaging. Exhibits will remain fresh and interesting, with rotations expected on a six-eight week basis, depending on content. Some of the initial exhibits planned include “Early Branson, prior to 1912 incorporation, The White River, The Roots of Tourism and School Days. “ Curators Jim and Jean Babcock are hard at work along with many volunteers, preparing the museum for opening day.

These clues will lead participants around the Branson/ Hollister area in search of 5 “mini eggs”, each holding a prize from other area participants and then finally 1 Grand prize inside Mr. Peck’s Golden Egg.
Once the mini egg has been found, participants will be asked to redeem it through our office, only one winner per prize. (In the event that more than one individual finds an egg at the same time, there will be a drawing of names to determine who gets the prize)
Pictures of the winner at the location of the egg, with the establishment, will be taken before prizes are handed out. These pictures, as well as the name of the individual will be royalty-free with no-compensation for public relations purpose. Each prize has its own redeeming date and specifications, so please check. Once the winner turns in the “mini” golden egg, he/she will be the first to see the next clue before it is posted on facebook. All clues will lead someone to the grand prize, Mr. Peck’s Golden Egg.
