Branson: One of America's Top Family Vacation Spots!

Summer is in full swing, and Branson is the ideal vacation spot for your entire family!

The Associated Press calls Branson one of the top family vacation destinations in the country, and TripAdvisor's users named Branson a Top 25 vacation spot and a 2012 Travelers Choice.

It's easy to see why: With three area lakes that offer an abundance of recreational opportunities from wakeboarding to scuba diving to fly fishing, and a vast array of lodging accommodations from which to choose, families choose Branson as their destination of choice for summertime fun.

Because the lakes are located just minutes from the center of town, it's easy to plan a vacation filled with outdoor recreation, shows, attractions, theme parks, shopping, amusement centers, plenty of dining options and more.

The live shows in Branson offer families with children high-tech magical illusions, Chinese acrobats, daredevil skateboard exhibitions, high-flying trapeze artists, talking dogs, buffalo stampedes, comedic characters, and, of course, a variety of styles and periods of musical entertainment.

King of Wake Pro Wakeboard Tour Hits Table Rock Lake June 9

The third stop on the 2012 King of Wake Pro Wakeboard Tour will be Moonshine Beach on beautiful Table Rock Lake in Branson. It's a great opportunity for Branson visitors to experience the best wakeboarding athletes competing in this extreme sport ... on one of America's most beautiful lakes!

Viewed as the world’s elite pro wakeboarding series, the King of Wake ties the sport’s most prestigious contests together into one ultimate season-long points chase to see who rules the wake.

Athletes from around the world compete during the course of a season to be named the “King of Wake” – an award based on points accumulated at each stop of the series. The series includes the Wake Games, the WWA National Championships, the WWA World Championships and all five stops on the Pro Wakeboard Tour- a separate series within the King of Wake.

At each event, athletes battle it out on the water for points by performing rail tricks and aerial stunts, while being pulled by a towboat at a speed of approximately 25mph.

The King of Wake consists of eight events, in which the top qualifying athletes compete for points toward the series standings. Athletes are ranked according to their total points earned throughout the season. The highest total points-earner at the end of the season will be crowned the King of Wake.

From the High Wire to High Tech, Silver Dollar City Presents its Biggest KidsFest Ever

New High-Tech Shows, High-Wire Thrills and a New July 4th Celebration June 9 through July 22

Silver Dollar City, the Ultimate Summer Vacation destination for families, presents its biggest KidsFest ever - with big new shows featuring high-tech special effects, and the return of The Fabulous Wallendas with international newsmaker Nik Wallenda, plus a special new July 4th celebration.

New for KidsFest this year is the three-dimensional light show LUMA with high-tech illumination techniques creating a show of light, color and motion. The show brings to life an original story centered on the park's famed Marvel Cave.

Also new is Gazillion Bubbles, an interactive show taking bubble artistry to amazing levels, with lasers, lighting effects and sheer bubble mastery - producing giant bubbles and colorful bubble effects.

"The Fabulous Wallendas! Famous Family Circus" returns with Guinness World Record high-wire walker and international newsmaker Nik Wallenda. Wallenda stars in the summer show at Silver Dollar City, yet plans a couple of days away for his scheduled June 15th attempt to walk across Niagara Falls on a 1,800-foot long, custom-made, two-inch wire. The event is scheduled to be televised on a major network (ABC) and shared throughout the globe. With proper approvals from governments in Ontario and New York, Wallenda's stunt will be the first-ever attempted walk over the Falls themselves, as early-on daredevils attempted walks downstream of the Falls, but that practice was long-ago banned. This will be the first such attempt in more than 100 years.

The park's 30 rides and attractions offer high-flying thrills including the multi-looping WildFire, the explosive PowderKeg and the super-swinging GIANT Swing. Cool water rides include Tom & Huck's RiverBlast and long-time favorites, Lost River of the Ozarks and The American Plunge. Other attractions cater to the smaller kids with interactive areas like Half Dollar Holler and the Grand Exposition with 10 family rides.

Kid-favorite entertainment extends to meet-and-greets with cartoon superstars, including SpongeBob & Patrick, Dexter & Deedee, Tom & Jerry, the Backyardigans and more, with character breakfasts available on select days.

ALL-NEW Independence Day Celebration

An all-new Independence Day Celebration during KidsFest turns Silver Dollar City red, white and blue on July 4th. The park will be open until 10:00 p.m., celebrating our country's Independence with a special opening ceremony, an old-fashioned ice cream social, and a fireworks show finale.

Silver Dollar City is open daily throughout KidsFest, 9:30 a.m. to 7  p.m. June 9 - July 22, then open late from 9:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on July 4, and late again on July 21 and July 22, the days leading into Moonlight Madness. For more information, call 800-831-4FUN(386) or visit www.silverdollarcity.com.

Late Show with David Letterman Tryouts At Branson Landing on June 16

People and their pets can showcase their unusual talents and downright “stupid tricks” at the casting call for a guest appearance on the world-famous “Stupid Human and Stupid Pet Tricks” segment of the LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN. Last year, Branson's own Matt Gumm was featured on the LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN. Matt's now famous rendition of “Musical Air with a Bicycle Pump” made it onto the stage with David Letterman and he played along with Paul Schaffer and the “The World’s Most Dangerous Band” later in the show! Your opportunity to try out will take place on Sat., June 16, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.at Branson Landing, located in historic downtown Branson on Lake Taneycomo.

The local communities, and visitors alike, are invited to audition for an opportunity to be selected to display their trick/talent on an upcoming LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN. “I am so grateful to the Branson Chamber/CVB for having David Letterman's crew out to Branson year after year for these auditions,” said Matt Gumm, featured comedian and vocalist in Clay Cooper's Country Music Express show. “I would encourage everyone to come out and audition at Branson Landing. You never know! There is so much talent in Branson and I thoroughly enjoyed being able to represent our town in New York City!”

The selected contestants will be awarded a FREE, all-expense-paid trip to New York City, payment for their appearance on the show and the once-in-a-lifetime chance to perform their act on the famed Ed Sullivan Theater stage before millions of television viewers. This is the fifth year for Letterman tryouts in Branson.

Interested entrants must arrive at the casting call area (located in front of the Branson Landing Fountains) between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Sat., June 16.  The casting call is based on a first-come, first-served basis and pre-registration will not guarantee an audition.  The last audition will take place promptly at 7:00 p.m.  In addition, participants that are auditioning for the “Stupid Pet Tricks” casting call must provide water for their pet and the pet must be under the owner’s control (i.e., leash, crate, etc.) at all times prior to and after the casting call.  All performing pets must have proof of current vaccinations. You may visit http://ozarksfirst.com/letterman for the rules, regulations and more information.

Don’t miss your chance to show the world either your or your pet’s special skills as a contender for a prized appearance on the LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN!  Who knows, you might just “trick” your way to the BIG APPLE courtesy of KOLR 10, the local CBS affiliate, Branson Landing and the Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and CVB.

Remembering our Fallen Ceremony
Saturday, June 2, 3:00 – 3:45PM
College of the Ozarks invites the public to attend a brief ceremony and reception to mark the opening of Missouri’s “Remembering Our Fallen” traveling memorial exhibit on Saturday, June 2, at 3 p.m. in The Keeter Center. Mr. Bryan Cizek, who served in both Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom as a U.S. Army Ranger, will provide brief remarks for the ceremony. “Remembering Our Fallen," a 60-foot wall display featuring the names and pictures of 141 Missouri men and women, was created to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Locally  SSG Ronald Blystone, PFC Jesse Givens, SPC Jessy Pollard and SPC Dylan Reid all of Springfield, SFC Robert Pharris of Seymour, SSG James Mowris of Aurora and PFC Matthew Wilson of Cape Fair are honored in the memorial display. “The College is pleased to host the exhibit June 2-11, before it travels to St. Genevieve, Mo.,” said Elizabeth Hughes, College of the Ozarks public relations director. “It is truly more than an exhibit.  It is a reminder of the price of freedom, and ensures that the individuals who paid that price remain in our hearts and minds.” The display was designed so that it could travel easily to communities throughout the state for a week at a time.  It made its first appearance on September 11, 2011, at the Missouri State Capitol in Jefferson City, and has made its way to several Missouri cities since. The public may view the display at the College of the Ozarks Keeter Center June 2-11, anytime Monday-Sunday 8 a.m.-8 p.m. There is no cost to attend the ceremony on June 2 or view the display. “The College greatly appreciates Branson Veterans Events and Reunions, Branson Bank and Branson-Hollister Lions Club for helping to bring the display to our community,” said Hughes. One of the College’s fundamental goals is a Patriotic Goal—to encourage an understanding of American heritage, civic responsibilities, love of country, and willingness to defend it. For more information on the ceremony or display, please contact Public Relations at (417) 690-2212.

Thurlow Spurr presents "A Festival of Praise"
Monday, July 2, 7:30 p.m.
It was announced today that three of the most recognized and popular Christian artists of all time will perform together in a two-day only concert tour this summer. Thurlow Spurr is hosting a mega musical tour featuring Sandi Patty, Larnelle, and Dino along with a 200 voice “all-star” choir for just two concerts. The venues are the 3000 seat Saint Louis Grace Church in Maryland Heights, Missouri on July 1, 2012 and the 2600 seat Tri-Lake Theater in Branson, Missouri on July 2, 2012. “Sandi, Larnelle and Dino have accumulated more Grammy and Dove awards, sold more records, performed in more live concerts and are more recognized and loved by a wider audience than any other contemporary Christian artists…these are the “Big 3!” says Spurr. He goes on to say, “From the moment the announcement was made people began to make plans to share this production. They are coming from long distances, having organized bus tours to share this unusual event. I have seldom seen a demand for tickets like this.” Sandi Patty is the most awarded female vocalist in Christian music history with forty Dove Awards. Her rendition of THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER sung at the rededication of the Statue of Liberty, A Capitol Fourth, the Pan American Games, The Indianapolis 500, ABC’s 4th of July Special and recently at the New Year’s Eve Celebration from Times Square is recognized as a masterpiece. Sandi’s singing partner, Larnelle has likewise garnered five Grammy Awards and dozens of other coveted Hall of Fame honors. He was the musical voice for the longest running Public Service Announcement in television. He has done concerts in the Kremlin and in leading venues in Israel, Finland, Korea, Japan, England, and Singapore, just to name a few. Billboard Magazine said about one of his recent albums, “another gem in the crown of one of Christian music’s true treasures.” Another reviewer declared, “Larnelle could sing the phone book and inspire you!” Larnelle and Sandi have recorded two huge musical classic hits together: MORE THAN WONDERFUL and I’VE JUST SEEN JESUS. On the tour, they will introduce a brand new duet entitled THEN CAME THE MORNING that debuted on a two-hour “made for television" special. The third member of this brief but very intense tour is Dino. He has been called “America’s Piano Showman.” He is seen by millions of people here in the USA as well as over 200 countries around the world on the weekly TV program called “The Dino Show.” For the last 12 years, Dino has headlined his own show in Branson Missouri. He is also a Grammy Award Winner with over 40 records to add to his credits. His music has been offered on QVC to the entire world. In constant demand, he has taken time out of his busy touring and television to share the stage with Sandi Patti, Larnelle and the All Star 200 voice CMI Concert Choir. Thurlow Spurr, creator, producer, director, and performer along with his wife Kathey who together have more live shows to their credits than anyone in Christian Music History are joined by St. Louis director, Bob Pickett in this “Festival of Praise.” Spurr recently released the following statement, “In more than a half century of bringing the finest Christian music to the world never have we been able to present a production like this one. No wonder tickets have been selling even before the official announcements have been made. To order tickets for July 1, 2012 in Saint Louis go to www.gracestl.org or call 314-292-8300 and for July 2, 2012 in Branson go to www.trilakescenter.com or call 417-336-0219.
