Silver Dollar City Announces World's Most Daring Wood Coaster
.jpg)
Thrill ride enthusiasts around the world will mark a first-of-its-kind ride debut at Branson, Missouri’s Silver Dollar City in Spring 2013 when the 1880s-style theme park makes history with the opening of Outlaw Run, the world’s most daring wood coaster.
The park’s (SDC) biggest investment in a single ride in the past decade, the new $10 million ride sends passengers soaring through the Ozark Mountains on a ground-breaking wood coaster that includes several firsts:
- World's steepest drop on a wood coaster -- More than 16 stories, 162-foot drop at 81 degrees, nearly vertical
- World's only wood coaster to twist upside down -- A record-breaking three inversions including a 720-degree (double) barrel roll
- Second fastest wood coaster in the world -- Top speed of 68 mph, world’s fastest wood coaster on steel wheels
The new ride takes advantage of the natural mountain terrain, with a more than 10-story lift that leads to a 162-foot drop (16 stories) into a valley. Custom-designed “stagecoach” trains, fashioned after the iconic Concord stagecoaches of the time period, take riders on a journey of unexpected drops, thrilling twists and rolling inversions. Riders soar through nine locations where they will experience “airtime” – or weightlessness.
Outlaw Run joins a lineup of popular coasters including the multi-looping steel coaster WildFire and the launch coaster PowderKeg. The park collaborated with Idaho-based Rocky Mountain Construction on the innovative engineering, design and construction of the new ride. Minimum height requirement is 48 inches.
An Outlaw Run website has been created, www.silverdollarcity2013.com, to follow the construction of this ground-breaking project.
Outlaw Run will open in Spring 2013. Silver Dollar City is open mid-March through December. Other SDC Branson attractions include White Water and Showboat Branson Belle. More information, including vacation packages is at 800-831-4FUN(386) or www.silverdollarcity.com.

Titanic Fantasy Princess Brings New Holiday Magic to Branson
Legend has it that Missouri’s ancient Ozark Mountains are home to blithe spirits and woodland fairies, often sensed but seldom seen. Just in time for the holidays, the Titanic Museum Attraction will bring an enchanted forest to life with help from a mystical Fantasy Princess. The magic begins Thanksgiving weekend and continues every Wednesday through Sunday to December 31.
“Our Fantasy Princess will be here soon to greet little girls and boys and help make their holiday dreams come true,” announces John Joslyn, expedition leader of the first private exploration dive to Titanic and owner of the Titanic Museum Attraction. “She will embody the holiday season’s magic and mystery shared by children of 1912 and today.”
The Titanic Fantasy Princess is this year’s beautiful addition to the annual Titanic Christmas Winter Wonderland, which features thousands of holiday lights, Edwardian-style decorations, costumed merry-makers and a Gift Shoppe brimming with one-of-a-kind selections. Also available is a magical photo op with the princess herself.
“Every day we remember and honor the men, women and children who sailed on Titanic, but this is especially so during the holidays. You’ll truly experience what a Titanic Christmas voyage might have been like 100 years ago,” says Joslyn.
The Titanic Museum Attraction opens at 9 a.m. daily. Reservations are strongly suggested. For tickets, call 800-381-7670 or visit titanicattraction.com.

4th Annual Guns & Hoses Tournament
Saturday, August 18
Anglers of all ages are invited to join in some friendly competition with local police and firemen for the Fourth Annual Guns & Hoses Tournament Saturday, Aug. 18, on Lake Taneycomo.
Lilleys’ Landing Resort & Marina will again host the fishing contest, which benefits the Branson Fire & Police Auxiliary. Each two-person team can register for $75 for the event either by mailing or dropping off an entry form available at Lilleyslanding.com. The marina is again offering 50% off boat rentals for contestants, but those should be reserved ahead to ensure availability by calling the resort office, 417-334-6380.
Fishing licenses and trout permits can be purchased right at the resort office before the takeoff, which starts at 8 a.m. The weigh-in is at 2 p.m. followed by a complimentary meal for contestants provided by Danna’s Barbecue at the resort pavilion. Prizes and specially-made trophies will be awarded for first through third places, plus teams are given free raffle tickets for donated items and can buy more.
Kory Klein, organizer, said that while last year’s benefit earned about $1,700, he hopes this year will bring in more. Helicopter rides, hotel nights, a Murder Rock golf package for four and some restaurant certificates have all been donated for the raffle time. A traveling trophy was initiated to spark competition between police and firemen -- now in the hands of police after last year’s contest, Klein said.
Organizers are hoping for a “quiet” weekend in Branson, he added, so that firefighters and officers can actually take some time off together to enjoy a few hours of fishing. The auxiliary funds help support firemen and officers and families in need, especially when they are off work from injuries.
Last year, some officers came from out of town to support the event, which drew 22 teams.
Lilleys’ Landing Resort is located at 367 River Lane in Branson, accessed midway off Fall Creek Road from between 76 Country Music Boulevard and MO 165 Highway.

Def Leppard in Concert, with Poison and Lita Ford
Wednesday, August 29, 8 p.m.
DEF LEPPARD
Def Leppard are an English rock band formed in 1977 in Sheffield as part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement. Since 1992, the band has consisted of Joe Elliott (vocals), Rick Savage (bass guitar), Rick Allen (drums), Phil Collen (guitar) and Vivian Campbell (guitar). At 20 years, this is the band's longest-standing lineup.
The band's strongest commercial success came between the early 1980s and the early 1990s. Their 1981 album High 'n' Dry was produced by Robert John "Mutt" Lange, who helped them begin to define their style, and the album's stand out track "Bringin' On the Heartbreak" became one of the first metal videos played on MTV in 1982. The band's next studio album Pyromania in 1983, with the lead single "Photograph", turned Def Leppard into a household name. In 2004, the album ranked number 384 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Def Leppard's fourth album Hysteria, released in 1987, topped the U.S and UK album charts. As of 2009, it has 12x platinum sales in the United States and has gone on to sell over 20 million copies worldwide. The album spawned six hit singles, including the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 number one "Love Bites", alongside "Pour Some Sugar on Me", "Hysteria", "Armageddon It", "Animal" and "Rocket".
Their next studio album Adrenalize (the first following the death of guitarist Steve Clark) reached number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 and UK Album Chart in 1992, and contained several hits including, "Let's Get Rocked" and "Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad". Their 1993 album Retro Active contained the acoustic hit song "Two Steps Behind", while their greatest hits album Vault released in 1995 featured the new track "When Love & Hate Collide".
As one of the world's best-selling music artists, Def Leppard have sold more than 100 million albums worldwide and have two albums with RIAA diamond certification, Pyromania and Hysteria. They are one of only five rock bands with two original studio albums selling over 10 million copies in the U.S. The band were ranked #31 in VH1's "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock" and ranked #70 in "100 Greatest Artists Of All Time". Def Leppard are currently touring in support of their recently released live album, Mirrorball.
POISON
Poison is an American glam metal band that achieved great success in the mid-1980s to mid-1990s. Poison has sold over 30 million records worldwide and have sold 15 million records in the United States alone. The band has also charted ten singles to the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100, including six Top 10 singles and the Hot 100 number-one single, "Every Rose Has Its Thorn".
In the 2000s, with the original line up back together, the band found new popularity after a successful greatest hits reunion tour in 1999. The band toured almost every year in the 2000s to sold out stadiums and arenas. Band members have released several solo albums and starred in successful reality TV shows. After 25 years, the band is still recording music and performing.
Since their debut in 1986, they have released eight studio albums, four live albums, five compilation albums, and have issued 28 singles to radio.
LITA FORD
As a teenager in the late 1970's, Lita Ford was a founding member and lead guitarist of the pioneering all-female rock group, The Runaways. Lita, along with band members Joan Jett, Sandy West, Jackie Fox, and Cherie Currie, not only proved that girls could rock, but they could do it with the best of them.
The 1980's began the solo career of Lita Ford. With the release of albums such as Out for Blood, Dancin' on the Edge, and Lita, she was well on her way to earning the title of "The Queen of Metal." As a solo artist Lita had the freedom to lean more to the hard side of rock n' roll. Hit singles Kiss Me Deadly and Close My Eyes Forever, a duet with metal master Ozzy Osbourne, took Lita to new heights both commercially and artistically.
Kiss Me Deadly was named one of the best hard rock songs of all time by VH1, while Close Me Eyes Forever is featured Karaoke Revolution Presents: American Idol Encore.
