The Missouri Ozarks and Table Rock Lake combine to provide a beautiful backdrop for one of the sporting world’s truly unique events: The Big Cedar Lodge Legends of Golf presented by Bass Pro Shops.

The Legends of Golf returns to the Ozarks April 17-23, 2017 featuring two exciting courses, the jaw-dropping Top of the Rock, the only par 3 course used in an official PGA event, and the redesigned Buffalo Ridge Springs Course (the former Branson Creek).

This tournament event, played over 54 holes, includes team play and gives golfers from the PGA Champions Tour the opportunity to showcase their skills in areas other than golf: Fishing and shooting sports (archery and sporting clays) are featured in the pro-am portion of the tournament on Wednesday and Thursday.

Friday through Sunday, two-man teams compete for the Legends crown, alternating play between the Buffalo Ridge and Top of the Rock courses. The inaugural event in 2014 drew the likes of Jack Nicklaus (who designed the Top of the Rock course), Gary Player and Tom Watson, to name just a few.

  • Top of the Rock Golf Course is a 9-hole, par-3 course designed by Jack Nicklaus. Two sets of tees allow for 18 holes of play, with different challenges. The site is a nature-based heritage preserve created by Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris. The facility includes an Arnold Palmer-designed practice facility with 18 target greens, plus a 70,000 square-foot "Himalayan" putting course designed by Tom Watson. Top of the Rock is home to Arnie’s Barn, a classic 150-year-old barn which was moved to the site from Latrobe, Pennsylvania; it serves as a stunning restaurant, bar and golf pro shop.
  • Buffalo Ridge Springs Golf Course is an 18-hole course which has undergone extensive redesign by Tom Fazio. Winding through rolling hills, the course contains an abundance of natural as well as man-made water hazards and free-ranging buffalo. Buffalo Ridge has been rated the Number One Public Golf Course in Missouri by Golf Magazine and named one of the Top 10 Missouri Courses by Golf Digest for 11 consecutive years. "This has been one of the most rewarding projects that I have ever worked on," said renowned architect Tom Fazio. "The natural surroundings and undulating terrain are very unique to deliver an extraordinary golf playing experience. On top of it all, its location, in the middle of the Missouri Ozarks, is unprecedented."

Information for spectators is found on the tournament’s website.

Along with golf and the pro-am activities, Legends of Golf gives spectators the opportunity to tour the Top of the Rock facility and admire the stunning views of Table Rock Lake. An on-site chapel was a favorite photo location for many in 2014, as was the sixth hole – an island-green layout that includes a boat ride from tee box to green.

Spectators also delight at the opportunity to see free-roaming buffalo at the Buffalo Ridge Springs Course.

After watching the Legends event, you’ll likely have a little golf fever. Extend your stay and find a cure for that fever at one of the Branson area’s many fantastic courses, several of which are connected to resorts. Pair a long weekend with great golf, Branson’s live shows, outstanding dining optionsfun attractions and shopping, and you’ll consider yourself the real winner.
