(Branson, Missouri) – Country Music Television (CMT) has announced the premiere date of a new, eight-part scripted series Sun Records, based on the Tony Award winning musical Million Dollar Quartet. The Welk Resort Theatre in Branson, Missouri is proud to announce the return, for the third season, of their smash-hit musical production of Million Dollar Quartet. Both the television show Sun Records and Million Dollar Quartet are inspired by the electrifying true story of the famed recording session where Sam Phillips, the "Father of Rock 'n' Roll" brought together icons Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins for one unforgettable night. Sun Records will air February 23, 2017 at 10 PM eastern on CMT. Million Dollar Quartet will open March 11, 2017 and run through December 31, 2017 at the Welk Resort Theatre.

On December 4, 1956, Sam Phillips, owner of Sun Records in Memphis and the man who discovered and started their careers, brought together the four legends-to-be for the only time in their lives, for what has come to be known as one of the greatest rock jam sessions of all time. Million Dollar Quartet tells the story and captures the high-energy spirit and rocking sounds of a unique moment when four of music’s most extraordinary talents, all in their creative prime, came together for one of the most memorable nights in music history.

Sun Records uses the Million Dollar Quartet as the basis for a more in-depth look at Sam Phillips and the many artists he discovered and recorded in his years of owning Sun Records, set against the beginning of the Civil Rights era and the cultural changes of the 1950’s. Along with the four principal stars of the Million Dollar Quartet, Sun Records also tells how Sam Phillips produced the earliest recordings of B.B. King, Fats Domino, Ike Turner and Muddy Waters, and how the musical influence of the African-American artists changed music in America forever.

“We are very excited about Sun Records,” says Dathan Atchison, General Manager of the Welk Resort Branson, and executive producer of Million Dollar Quartet Branson.  “Having a nationally televised show, based on the live stage show we are currently producing in Branson creates an awareness to the incredible story of Sam Phillips and what he did for American music, and we hope it will inspire people to experience more of the great stories and music we provide with Million Dollar Quartet.”

Sun Records premiers Thursday, February 23, 2017 at 10 PM eastern on CMT, and will air the next seven Thursday nights. Million Dollar Quartet runs March 11 through December 31 with shows at 8pm, Tuesday through SundayTickets are $35 plus tax and are available by phone at 800-505-9355 or on-line at
